Too Scary

So... we have succumbed to the idea that step parents are always evil. Cinderella, Snow White and Jonathan Taylor Thomas in Home for Christmas are just a few of those Hollywood figures who have engraved the idea of horrid stepparents. A few months ago I saw a trailer for the movie The Stepfather and the thought of that movie has given me chills ever since. This movie is taking the “evil stepparent ideal” to an entire new level. Perhaps this seems like a bad idea for me in particular because for one thing, I hate scary movies. I always have and probably always will. I’ve never quite understood the pleasure in watching these horror films that not only make you feel terrified for the 90 minutes of screen time but for days – even years – after watching it. To this day, I continue to check behind the shower curtain before using the washroom in every house I enter because of What Lies Beneath (watched at age eleven.)

While I feel an utter discomfort and discontent when watching scary movies and on normal circumstances would never give a horror film my time of day... I feel it necessary to blog about this film in particular. “The Stepfather.” My goodness... if stepparents didn’t have a hard enough time as it is... Hollywood’s decided to throw a movie like this at them! Petrifying children of divorced or widowed parents everywhere! Now, I haven’t seen this movie and certainly don’t intend to, but I’d love to hear other’s opinions about the movie – so feel free to let me know if perhaps this movie does in fact, have a lovely happy-ever-after ending... though I highly doubt it.
